Bette Teasdale

June 10, 1946 — September 23, 2019

Bette Jane "BJ" Teasdale, age 73 of Novi, passed away on September 23, 2019. She was born on June 10, 1946 in Wayne, Michigan to her parents, the late Robert and Luetta West. She was the beloved wife of the late William Teasdale; devoted mother of two sons, Todd Robert Teasdale and Scott William (Nicole) Teasdale. Loving grandmother to Lee Teasdale, Alexander Teasdale, and Nash Teasdale. Dearest sister to Charles West. Silver Bird and Ms. T to her “chosen sons” Michael (Claire, Hudson and Oliver) Shaw and Craig (Jackie and Avery) Curry.

Bette was a lung cancer survivor of more than 30 years—a miracle to say the least. Clearly, she had a zest for life, as she fought to make each day count. Throughout those battles, Bette had many people in her corner. Without the outpouring of support throughout the years, she wouldn’t have achieved miracle status.

There wasn’t much that BJ didn’t enjoy doing (except cooking). She would travel anytime she got the chance and her vacation planning skills were rather impressive. Bette loved horses, decorating, books (some of which she actually read), and being teased by those who loved her. Bette also enjoyed shopping and finding deals, which typically resulted in her purchasing gifts for others.

Bette lived with a sense of gratitude and sought to pay it forward. She was constantly thinking of others. After her move to Novi, MI, Bette volunteered weekly with Novi’s Meals on Wheels program. She enjoyed working with that program immensely and it was a perfect fit, given her health.

BJ always desired to raise a leader dog for the blind, but her health status prevented her from doing so. In lieu of flowers, Leader Dogs for the Blind would be a great organization to support in her honor. A donation can be made at https://www.leaderdog.org/donate/

Bette frequently supported the schools attended by her sons through participation in PTO’s, fundraising, and other school-related initiatives. She always promoted the importance of education and immensely enjoyed being around children of all ages. Another option in lieu of flowers would be a donation in her honor to support the Red Wagon literacy program. The Red Wagon program is a mobile library that travels through the Norwayne neighborhood (Westland/Wayne, MI) during the summer, which is the neighborhood where Bette grew up. On those red wagons are books and goodies for infants to high school aged youth in the area. To make a donation to the Red Wagon Program, please send checks to the following address:

The Red Wagon Program ℅ Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church 32500 Palmer Road Westland, MI 48186

The family will be honoring Bette’s request to not hold a formal memorial service.
