Rev. Roy G. Forsyth

Reverend Roy G. Forsyth passed away on April 22, 2017. Roy was born May 12, 1929 in Toronto, Canada to Wilmot and Sarah (Baker) Forsyth. He is pre-deceased by his parents and his siblings, Kenneth, James, Paul, David, Verna, Dora, and Shirley.

Roy married Beverley Eleanor Glauser on May 17, 1952 in Toronto, Canada. They were married for 64 years. Roy and Beverley are the parents of three children, Diane (the Late Roger) Wofford, Larry (Mary) Forsyth, and Cynthia (Paul Fabinski) Forsyth.

Roy is survived by his eight grandchildren, Elizabeth (Dylan) Wofford-Girard, Matthew Wofford, Ciarra (Leif) Forsyth-Tobiassen, Ewelina Webster, Robert Liss, Susan Liss, Danny Forsyth, and Angelica (Zak) Winell; and five great-grandchildren – Sara, Allison, Jacob, Adam, and Finnigan.

Roy attended Queens University, Clarksville College, Emmanuel Bible College and Garrett Theological seminary. Roy pastored churches in Ontario, Canada.

In 1963, upon invitation of Bishop Marshall Reed of the United Methodist Church, he moved to the U.S.A. where he was appointed to several United Methodist Churches, the last being Newburg United Methodist Church in Livonia, Michigan. In 1991, Roy retired from the active ministry after serving 45 years and resided in Plymouth, Michigan.

Roy enjoyed writing poetry. Three of the poems he wrote are in the Hall of Congress: “God Looked Down”, “Friendship”, and “I Chose America”. While pastoring at Newburg United Methodist Church, he wrote the book, “Single Again”.

Roy also enjoyed travelling in his lifetime to many locations in Canada and the U.S.A. - especially Hawaii and the Holy Land.

Roy loved people and helping those in need. He will be missed by all of those that loved him. He coined the phrase: “It is nice to be popular and more popular to be nice”, and “A friend is a person who knows all about you but still loves you”. Wherever he went he made many friends.
