David Alva Pugh

David A. Pugh, 73, passed away peacefully November 14, 2017 after suffering a prolonged illness. He was surrounded by his wife, Sharon, and family members.

Dave was born in Mishawaka, Indiana in 1944, graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1962 and, attended Indiana University graduating in 1967 with a Business of Science Degree. He later earned a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Detroit. After leaving Indiana University, he worked for the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn and retired in 1997.

Dave moved his family to Plymouth, Michigan in 1972. He was looking for a small active community where he and his wife, Sharon, could raise and educate their daughters, Sigrid and Jennifer. Dave soon became involved in community and governmental activities serving on various committees and commissions. He served on the Parking and Planning Commission before serving on the City Commission from 1978 through 1985. Dave was Mayor of the City of Plymouth from 1983 through 1985. While involved in City affairs, he was active in many areas of City rebirth including building the Gathering on the park, the addition to the Cultural Center, the downtown Medical Center, and the sidewalk redevelopment. Dave and Sharon were one of the first residents to participate in the revival of urban living by moving their home above their business, Sideways, on Forest Avenue. Dave was active in the purchase and building of many other business interests in the downtown area.

Dave was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Plymouth and was a community leader in so many other areas. Above all, he was a dear friend of so many and will be missed. Dave is survived by his wife, Sharon, their daughters, Sigrid Doyle and husband John, Jennifer Dismuke and husband Donald, and six devoted grandchildren, Sean, Katherine, Kelsey, Brian, Ashley, and Dalton. Dave's sisters are Sigrid Thanos and husband Nicholas, and Susan Pugh. Dave is also survived by his brother, Tom and wife Susan.
